Packaging and Labeling Compliance
The rules governing the packaging and labeling of products are not solely intended to ensure their grouping or handling. In Senegal, certain information is mandatory, such as the statement – in French – “Vendu au Sénégal” (“to be sold in Senegal“) to be affixed to cigarettes, food products, batteries, and spirits authorized for sale by the government.
Other markings are not mandatory by regulation but are essential for tracking your products. For example, adding tracking indicators will facilitate insurance claims if abnormal stress has been exerted on a fragile product. Additionally, it seems inconceivable to transport perishable goods or pharmaceutical products without equipping the truck or container with a temperature recorder
Every day, Colimex Senegal registers and monitors numerous transit operations throughout Senegal. Skilled in container loading and repackaging of goods, particularly for sea and air consolidations, our agents will handle all your order preparations and ensure your shipments are loaded efficiently without wasted space.
Customs Procedures in Senegal
With customs license No. 3408, Centrimex and Colimex Senegal manage all customs-related operations for your supply chain, including : Collection and submission of pre-clearance documents and registration of goods on the GAINDE platform.
Customs Duties and Taxes in Senegal
Senegal is part of the ECOWAS customs union (the Economic Community of West African States). The applicable taxes and customs duties are therefore based on the ECOWAS CET (Common External Tariff). In addition, domestic taxes apply, such as an 18% VAT, excise duties, an import levy on certain food products, and surcharges on alcohol and cigarettes, among others.
Customs Clearance for Goods
Importing Goods to Senegal:
If the customs value of your goods is less than 200,000 CFA Francs, you can declare them yourself or use our services for your Senegal freight.
However, if their value exceeds this amount, only a licensed customs broker can handle the customs clearance.
Transit of Goods Through Senegal
As a key entry point to many african countries, especially Mali, goods transiting through Senegal are subject to temporary importation regulations. With approval from the Director general of customs, containers and parcels may be temporarily exempted from duties and taxes within a predetermined period.
Exporting Senegalese Goods
To conquer international markets, Senegalese exporters must master both national export procedures (including obtaining an import-export license), incoterms, and the import procedures of the target countries.
